"Arbeit und Leben will durch politische Bildungsarbeit dazu beitragen, dass Mitverantwortung und Mitbestimmung in der Gesellschaft wahrgenommen werden und dass die Arbeit und das Leben der Menschen sich nach den Prämissen von sozialer Gerechtigkeit, Chancengleichheit und Solidarität mit dem Ziel einer demokratischen Kultur der Partizipation entwickeln."* Dafür setzt sich der gesamte Vorstand ein.

Der Vorstand setzt sich paritätisch zusammen aus Vertretungen von DGB und VHS auf Landes- und Bundesebene. Er repräsentiert damit die institutionelle Basis, die Arbeit und Leben ausmacht.

With its regional organisations in each of the federal states and approximately 150 local and regional institutions organised together under the umbrella of the national committee, Arbeit und Leben (WORK AND LIFE) is present nationwide and reaches approximately 300,000 youth and adults each year.

The national committee looks after the political interests of advancing further education for Arbeit und Leben at the national level, is active in politically promoting the interests of its members, and offers its expertise in generating a fresh impetus to political education through innovative projects nationwide.

We want

to contribute to organising WORK and LIFE according to the premises of social justice, equal opportunity, and solidarity with the aim of creating a democratic culture of participation.

Through our educational offers, we want to create opportunities to impart knowledge to people, to promote critical thinking in forming opinions and in decision-making, and to foster social participation.

Didactically and methodologically our work focuses on people’s interests as well as on their everyday life and living conditions. Our educational offers are directed toward the following groups:

• employees
• trainees
• unemployed persons
• migrants
• senior citizens
• youth and young adults
• works councils and workplace representatives

We also address youth and adults who are considered to be educationally disadvantaged because of their specific living and working conditions. Our courses and activities are open to all interested persons.

We organise and accompany

learning processes through workshops, seminars, international meetings, local initiatives and projects that focus on the following topics:

• work and education
• economy and social development
• migration and integration
• communication and the media
• civil society and politics
• co-determination and participation
• European development processes
• globalisation and sustainability

We also develop and offer additional formats and topics in collaboration with groups and cooperation partners.

We improve

our work through a continual process of revision, adaptation, and quality development through activities designed to assure quality management in education.

Gender-mainstreaming is implemented in the planning and realisation and in structuring the work, organisation and personnel development activities.

We are dedicated

to maintaining and expanding political education at the national, federal state and local levels and to ensuring that all people have access to further education. To do so, all employees must have the right to an educational work leave.

Avec des structures dans les Länder, son Bureau Fédéral et environ 150 organisations locales et régionales Arbeit und Leben est présent sur l’ensemble de l’Allemagne et peut ainsi atteindre environ 300 000 jeunes et adultes par an.

Pour l’ensemble de notre organisation, le Bureau Fédéral (Bundesarbeitskreis) représente et défend, les positions de Arbeit und Leben dans les domaines de la politique et du financement de la formation permanente. Il ouvre également de nouvelles perspectives en proposant à l’échelle fédérale des projets à caractère innovant.

Nous voulons

contribuer au fait que les conditions de travail et de vie au quotidien évoluent dans une perspective de plus grande justice sociale, d’égalité des chances et de solidarité pour ainsi accéder à une culture démocratique de la participation.

Notre travail de formation permanente doit permettre la transmission de savoir, encourager la réflexion, l’analyse, l’implication dans les débats de société et l’engagement personnel.

L’environnement quotidien et les intérêts de ceux et celles à qui nous nous adressons sont à la base même de notre réflexion sur les méthodes et la didactique du travail de formation.

• sans emploi ou ayant un emploi précaire
• migrants/es
• seniors/es
• jeunes et adultes
• représentants/es des salariés/es

Nous nous adressons également à ceux et celles qui du fait de leurs conditions de vie et de travail sont considérés/es comme défavorisés/es en termes de formation.

Les manifestations sont par principe ouvertes à tous et à toutes.

Nous progressons

dans notre travail en utilisant un mode de développement et d’amélioration intégrant des critères de qualité conformes au contexte de la formation permanente.

La promotion de l’égalité des chances entre les femmes et les hommes est prise en compte dans la planification et la mise en place de nos actions, dans l’organisation de notre travail et notre développement structurel et humain.

Nous nous engageons

pour le maintien et le développement de la formation socio-politique au niveau fédéral, régional et local afin que tous et toutes puissent profiter de la formation permanente. Le droit au congé individuel de formation pour tous / toutes les salariés/es s’inscrit également dans ce cadre.

Mit Landesorganisationen in den Bundesländern und über 120 lokalen und regionalen Einrichtungen sowie dem Bundesarbeitskreis als gemeinsamem Dach ist Arbeit und Leben bundesweit präsent und erreicht jährlich hunderttausende Jugendliche und Erwachsene.

Der Bundesarbeitskreis nimmt die weiterbildungspolitischen Interessen von Arbeit und Leben auf der Bundesebene wahr, ist im Interesse seiner Mitglieder förderungspolitisch tätig und gibt fachliche Impulse durch bundesweite innovative Projekte. Die Landesorganisationen sowie regionale und örtliche Einrichtungen konzipieren Bildungsangebote, führen sie durch und evaluieren sie.

Wir wollen

dazu beitragen, dass sich die Arbeit und das Leben der Menschen nach den Prämissen von sozialer Gerechtigkeit, Chancengleichheit und Solidarität mit dem Ziel einer demokratischen Kultur der Partizipation entwickeln.

Wir schaffen

mit Bildungsangeboten Möglichkeiten, Menschen Wissen zu vermitteln, Urteilsbildung zu fördern und zur gesellschaftlichen Mitwirkung anzuregen.

Methodisch-didaktischer Ausgangspunkt unserer Arbeit sind die Interessen, sowie Alltags- und Lebenswelten der Menschen. Mit unseren Angeboten richten wir uns an:

• Auszubildende und Arbeitssuchende
• Migrant*innen
• Senior*innen
• Jugendliche und junge Erwachsene
• Betriebs- und Personalräte

Außerdem sprechen wir Jugendliche und Erwachsene an, die aufgrund ihrer besonderen Lebens- und Arbeitsbedingungen als bildungsbenachteiligt gelten. Die Veranstaltungen stehen grundsätzlich allen offen.

Lernprozesse in Workshops, Seminaren, internationalen Begegnungen, lokalen Initiativen und Projekten. Unsere Themenfelder sind dabei:

Wir entwickeln und bieten weitere Formate und Themen in Absprache mit Gruppen und Kooperationspartnerinnen und -partnern an.

Wir qualifizieren

unsere Arbeit in einem ständigen Bearbeitungs- und Verbesserungsprozess nach den Maßstäben eines weiterbildungsgerechten Qualitätsmanagements.

Wir setzen uns ein

für den Bestand und die Weiterentwicklung der politischen Bildung auf Bundes-, Landes- und kommunaler Ebene und dafür, dass alle Menschen an Weiterbildung teilhaben können. Dazu gehört auch das Recht auf Bildungsurlaub für alle Arbeitnehmerinnen und Arbeitnehmer.
